What's New
v0.22.5 rolls ~81 PRs into a patch: sign-in rework, usage-window plans, delegation backends, MCP/Singularity to plugins.
Breaking Changes
- `hermes mcp serve` and the Singularity/Apptainer backend were moved out of core into plugins, so anyone relying on them being built in must install the corresponding plugin.
- Nous sign-in now always uses the plain device login and connectors offer sign-in instead of opening a guest session, changing the free-tier onboarding flow.
New Features
- Nous sign-in reworked with device login, guest-to-account handover, visible sign-in identity, and connector sign-in prompts.
- Usage-window plan support adds plan gauges, limit cards, and model-switch recovery for window-based plans.
- Pluggable delegation backends route subagents by model map or profile and can be switched per session.
- Plugin slash commands can now prompt the user to pick an option.
- Desktop gains sidebar drag-to-pin, one-click plugin installs with tier badges, and group chats that show which bot is working.
Improvements
- Desktop moves to Electron 44 along with dependency security bumps.
- `hermes update` now holds back a stable release it refuses rather than offering it.
- Setup offers the agent importer when it detects another agent installed, including OpenClaw migration.
- The release rolls 231 non-merge commits across 804 changed files into stable CLI, Microsoft Store, Docker, and Cloud builds.
Bug Fixes
- Windows `hermes update` no longer gets stuck on the old launcher after a Python repin.
- Model-switch recovery was added for window-based plans, addressing failed switches.
- Individual fixes are not itemized here: the window closed 30 issues but curated notes are deferred to v0.23.0.
Upgrade Notes
Install the mcp-serve and Singularity/Apptainer plugins if you depended on those capabilities being in core, and expect free-tier guests to be prompted to sign in rather than dropped into a guest session. Because this tag only summarizes the ~81-PR window and defers full curated notes to v0.23.0, review the commit range (bf0203a794a) before pinning in production. Desktop users should re-verify plugins after the Electron 44 bump.
