What's New

@effect/cluster adds shard release metrics and improves span naming; @effect/rpc enhances error handling during shard handoff

Breaking Changes

  • Missed pong requests now fail immediately when retryTransientErrors is enabled
  • Server-side entity RPC span names no longer include the entity ID

New Features

  • Added ClusterMetrics.shardReleaseDuration timer to measure shard release time
  • Updated effect dependency to 3.22.3 in @effect/rpc

Improvements

  • Improved accuracy of effect_cluster_shards gauge during shard release or lock loss
  • Reduced span name cardinality by dropping entity ID from RPC spans
  • Enhanced handling of client interrupts and acknowledgements during shard handoff

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed RPC server span failure when response Exit cannot be encoded
  • Fixed interrupt handling during draining entities and after RPC EOF

Upgrade Notes

Update your tracing filters to accommodate the new span naming convention. Be aware that RPC requests may now fail immediately upon a missed pong instead of retrying. Ensure the updated effect dependency (3.22.3) is compatible with your project.
