What's New

Dify 1.18.0 adds agent-routed workflows and portable app packages but requires coordinated breaking upgrades.

Breaking Changes

  • Agent Backend /runs now requires composition v2 and rejects v1 requests; the old Agent-specific AskHuman tool and deferred resume path are removed.
  • API, workers, Agent Backend, and Agent runtime images must be upgraded together; legacy workflow consumers must be retired before new-version traffic is admitted.
  • Local Agent sandboxes require a non-empty DIFY_AGENT_LOCAL_SANDBOX_AUTH_TOKEN and matching 1.18.0 Agent Backend/Local sandbox images.
  • Source installations require Python 3.13; difyctl v2 requires a fresh login and per-mode OpenAPI operations replace the old mode-agnostic run route.
  • PASSWORD_PEPPER must remain unchanged or empty on existing installations; setting, changing, or removing it invalidates existing password hashes.

New Features

  • Agent Output Routes let agents choose workflow branches and expose the selected route via a read-only switch output.
  • Portable .ifpkg packages bundle apps with supported resources such as inline Agents, Skills, files, icons, and Site settings.
  • Nested Workflow Tool invocations can be opened in run history to inspect child workflow steps and traces.
  • Agent Knowledge Base beta introduces KnowledgeFS-backed knowledge spaces with retrieval history, metadata, and quality evaluation.
  • An OpenAPI operation catalog and difyctl CLI support app creation, DSL import/export, settings, publishing, and version restoration.

Improvements

  • Plain Agent v2 nodes stream text as it is generated, improving responsiveness while structured and routed results remain buffered.
  • The OpenAPI operation catalog and difyctl CLI modernize command-line app lifecycle management.
  • Source installations move to Python 3.13 as the supported runtime.

Upgrade Notes

Upgrade API, workers, Agent Backend, and Agent runtime images together, and retire legacy workflow consumers before admitting new-version traffic. Set a non-empty DIFY_AGENT_LOCAL_SANDBOX_AUTH_TOKEN for local sandboxes, move source installs to Python 3.13, re-login difyctl v2, and keep PASSWORD_PEPPER unchanged or empty. If the 1.17.1 bundled Weaviate staged upgrade was not completed, finish it before proceeding.
