What's New

1.79.0 adds MCP Events and span aggregation but introduces breaking Agent Controller and observability API changes.

Breaking Changes

  • Agent Controller sessions are now addressed by sessionId instead of resourceId plus scope, changing core, server, and client-js APIs and routes.
  • Thread-row query contracts now use timeRange.traces and timeRange.threads instead of traces.timeRange.
  • querySpans no longer accepts model/provider filters and no longer returns cost or truncation fields, so storage adapters must be updated.
  • Channel resolveResourceId and resolveThreadId contexts now require requestContext.
  • Cross-process DurableAgent.observe now throws DURABLE_AGENT_OBSERVE_AGENT_MISMATCH when the persisted run belongs to a different agent ID.

New Features

  • Experimental MCP Events support polling, streaming, signed webhooks, and Studio inspection under mastra dev.
  • A new aggregateSpans storage contract enables per-span analytics such as p95 latency per tool and token/cost per agent.
  • Observability queries add timeToFirstChunkMs fields plus richer trace/span filtering, sorting, and root entity trace-scope fields.
  • WorkspaceSandbox can expose an optional native filesystem API for faster one-roundtrip reads, writes, and listings.
  • @mastra/connect adds per-resource connection scoping, userConnectRoutes for end-user account connections, and Microsoft Teams support.

Improvements

  • Agent Controller now supports multiple sessions per resourceId while keeping resourceId as the memory/thread owner key.
  • querySpans gains context, parent, and root-entity filters with updated storage capability detection.
  • Observability trace-scope fields now include root entityId, root name, and root spanType.
  • MCP Events can be listed, streamed, and test-emitted through Studio inspection APIs.
  • Storage capability detection was updated to advertise support for the new span-aggregate feature.

Upgrade Notes

Plan for a breaking upgrade: migrate Agent Controller integrations to sessionId-based APIs/routes and update custom storage adapters for the new aggregateSpans contract and querySpans response/filter changes. Channel resolvers must accept requestContext, and thread-row queries should use timeRange.traces/timeRange.threads. Review DurableAgent.observe cross-process usage for the new mismatch error.
